Bush fire near Port-Harcourt airport runway grounds flight, passengers stranded
A bush fire that spread very close to the Port-Harcourt International Airport led to the closure of the runway. The runway according to an official of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said villagers set fire on bushes around Omagwa, the community housing the airport, stressing that the inferno spread rapidly close to the area which forced FAAN to close the runway.
The closure, Woleshadarenews learnt led to the grounding of aircraft from take-off while arriving airplanes returned back to where they took off. The source said Max Air was on ground and could not take off while Arik Air flight from Lagos returned to base. Dana Flight 368 from Abuja to Port-Harcourt with 124 passengers had to return back to Abuja because of the inferno.
